oarfish

As a rule, I don't like swimming near fish bigger than me. This would include oarfish.

"Are you lazy or stupid?!"

"Are you lazy or Stupid?!" I think that was the most motivating thing ever said to me. When I was a senior or junior in high school, my orchestra director yelled this at us once, obviously when we were doing something very wrong. No, it's not a very positive message at all, but I find what she said more believable and refreshing than those motivational posters. The motivational posters is nice and all, with that breath taking picture and positive message or quote designed to inspire; but I think its place is in a kindergarten bathroom (focus...to help the boys keep the pee off the floor). I myself don't find them very motivating at all. I just don't think that way. If you want to motivate me, insults and challenges work best.

Sock Strategy.

I'm running out of functional socks. Let me tell you my sock strategy. First, I separate my special socks. I only have two kinds of special socks: partition toed socks and dress socks. Once these are safe, I throw the few functional socks left into the rubbish. Right now that would be about 5 individual socks. Now my drawer should be empty. I then go to the store and purchase 3 pkgs of tube socks that are identical...this should give me 18 pairs. Put all socks back in drawer and boom boom pow I'm done.

orc nightmare

First off, yes I realize my nightmares are pretty wussy compared to someone like Stephen King. My nightmares mostly just elevate my stress level, but any dream you wake up from with relief would be what I consider a nightmare. I have two reoccurring nightmares, but Saturday night I had another one that freaked me out. It was like a flashback to high school; Orchestra class specifically. We would have these chair tests in which everyone would play solo in front of the orchestra, usually a piece that we would all be playing together anyway. Sometimes we would be given only a day or two to prepare from sheet music we just got. Being lazy high school students, that would usually mean that I would be basically sight reading in front of everyone. Me sight reading sounds terrible, so I considered it embarrassing. This actually isn't that bad, but my dream made it dreadful. In my dream everyone played before me one by one and they all sounded perfect. It came time for me to play, to play something I never played before and then I woke up. Good timing I know.

textbooks for rent

So every once in a while, not very often, an industry which has gotten into the habit of being too comfortable with easy profits from the consumers, gets shaken up. One example of that would be CD record labels.

For a while they had it made, selling us CD's with one or two good singles on them, packaged with 12 other crappy, poorly produced songs on an album. I'm a big fan of good albums, but honestly the record labels sold a lot of crappy albums. Then napster came along to stir things up a bit... and in a round about fashion the consumers got a better deal.

I think college text books will be another example soon. Currently many college textbooks, especially science and math courses, are over 100USD. Are these books really worth that? In short, No. Well, I hear consumers are about to get a better deal: Barnes n Nobles is experimenting with renting college textbooks. I hope this experiment goes well, it will help out the students, Barnes n Nobles will do well, and the book publishers will be sad.

xmas 09 visit-days 4,5

Fourth day was a Sunday. I had to work that morning but got to see my sis, cousin and his gf for lunch. The original plan was sushi by the cows. That failed. Plan b was sushi by the road. That failed. We settled on eating at a Serrano's. I guess it was ok cause there was a really cool mask there.

After lunch, I went back to work. Once work was finished I went down south to see what be up. My mum was cooking chicken rice. Basically we watched tele and ate. The Crow came on, I forgot how cool that movie was. I left in the middle of the Crow to go zz from work.

On Monday, my cousin and his gf left on an airplane. I was working and did not see, but I'm pretty sure they were really sad and like crying a lot because they missed me. I understand, I miss me too sometimes. Peace outside.
